Hemolin

Hemolin is a bacteria-inducible hemolymph protein of the giant silk moth Hyalophora cecropia. Hemolin belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily (Sun et al, 1990) and has been described originally as P4 (Lee et al, 1983). The bacteria-induced P4 protein from the tobacco hornworm Manduca sexta shows 60 % identity at the amino acid level with hemolin (P4) from Hyalophora cecropia and is being referred to also as hemolin (Ladendorff and Kanost, 1991; Wang et al, 1995; Lindstrom-Dinnetz et al, 1995). Hemolin has been identified also in the gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar (Lee et al, 2002), and Chinese oak silkmoth, Antheraea pernyi (Li et al, 2005).
