ITR

[intimal thickness-related receptor] This receptor has been identified by Tsukada S et al (2003) who reported increased expression in the acute phase after balloon injury in rabbit aortas. The expression of ITR protein increases with intimal thickening induced by cuff placement around murine femoral artery. ITR is expressed predominantly in vascular smooth muscle cells. Knock-out mice lacking expression of ITR appear phenotypically healthy but have been found to be resistant to experimental intimal thickening, suggesting that the receptor may play a role in vascular remodelling.
