[keratinocyte-derived anti-fibrogenic factor] This factor is found in the conditioned medium of keratinocytes in cocultures with fibroblasts (Ghahary et al, 2004). The factor is produced by differentiated keratinocytes. KDAF possesses potent collagenase stimulatory effect on fibroblasts, which favours the resolution of accumulated collagen type 1 and collagen type 3 found in fibrotic tissue. The major collagenase produced by fibroblasts in response to KDAF has been identified as MMP-1 (Ghahary et al, 2005).
KDAF has been found to be a releasable form of stratifin, which, in turn, is identical to 14-3-3-sigma.
