Leishmania major metacaspase |
Leishmania mexicana metacaspase |

This enzyme is encoded in the genome of Leishmania mexicana. Inoculation of CPB2.8 into the footpads of BALB/c mice favours development of Th2 cell responses, characterized by an upregulation of IL4 and IL5 production. CPB2.8 also induces strong specific IgE responses in treated mice as well as increasing whole IgE levels.
CPB2.8 cleaves CD23 and CD25 but not B220 or CD4 from murine lymphocytes. Vaccination of mice with CPB2.8 enhances L. mexicana lesion growth. Vaccination with IL12 and CPB2.8 is protective and associated with inhibition of lesion growth and a Th1 cell response.
