[Mixer inducible gene 30] Mig30 is a secreted protein in Xenopus laevis isolated as a target of the homeobox transcription factor Mixer. Mig30 is expressed in the anterior mesendoderm of the Spemann organizer and is involved in the regulation of morphogenetic movements during gastrulation (Hayata et al, 2002). Its expression peaks during gastrulation Kuerner and Steinbeisser, 2006). Overexpression of Mig30 affects morphogenetic movements and leads to microcephalic embryos (Hayata et al, 2002).
Sequence analysis shows that mig30 is related to mammalian IGFBP [Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins] but there is no obvious mammalian homolog of Mig30 (Kuerner and Steinbeisser, 2006).
