This antimicrobial peptide from tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) NK-lysin gene (named CsNKL1) (Zhang et al, 2013) shares little sequence identity with known NK-lysin peptides from fish, chicken, bovine, and porcine NK-lysin. The peptide, KVKARLIKICNKIGFLKSRCHKFVITH, has been shown to modulate immune response by upregulating the expression of immune genes including those known to be involved in antibacterial and antiviral defense.
