Persephin

abbr. PSPN , which is the approved gene symbol, or PSP. Persephin is a distant member of the TGF-beta family. Persephin has been identified as a member of the GDNF family referred to also as the GDNF family ligands (the other members being Neurturin, Artemin, and GDNF) (Milbrandt et al, 1998; Baudet et al, 2000). Persephin is approximately 40 % identical with GDNF and neurturin. The GDNF-like growth factors belong structurally to the Cystine knot growth factor family. The gene maps to human chromosome 19p13.3 (Chadwick et al, 1998).
