ProSAAS, so named because one of the derived peptides contains the deduced partial amino acid sequence Ser-Ala-Ala-Ser, has been identified as the precursor protein of five peptides found in the brains of mice lacking the neuropeptide-processing enzyme carboxypeptidase E (Fricker et al, 2000).
