[Smad Anchor for Receptor Activation] This protein of 135 kDa acts as an anchor protein and recruits the SMAD proteins SMAD2 and SMAD3 (Goto et al, 2001, Quin et al, 2002) to the TGF-beta receptor (Miyazono et al, 2000). TGF-beta receptors require SARA for phosphorylation of the downstream transducing SMAD proteins and their localisation to endosomes (Itoh et al, 2002; Hayes et al, 2002).
