Scospondistatin is a bioactive fragment (see also: cryptides) derived from the SSPO [SCO-spondin] gene, a large multidomain protein that shares similarities with axonal guidance proteins and is released by the subcommissural organ (SCO) and is involved in the modulation of neuronal aggregation and may be involved in developmental events during the formation of the central nervous system (Meiniel and Meiniel, 2007). Scospondistatin [GPWEDCSVSCGGGEQLRSR] corresponds to residues 3652-3670 of SCO-spondin (SCO-spondin(3652-3670)). Scospondistatin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and is therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic
