Scyliorhinins are amidated neuropeptides, related to Substance P and belonging to the family of tachykinins, from the guts and/or brain of the Scyliorhinus canicula (Small-spotted catshark) (Squalus canicula) (Conlon et al, 1986; Waugh et al, 1993; Anderson et al, 1995).
Scyliorhinin-1 is the linar peptide AKFDKFYGLMamide.
Scyliorhinin-2 is a cyclic peptide, SPSNSKCPDGPDCFVGLMamide, which is likely to be identical with an uncharacterized S. canicula rectal gland stimulating peptide termed Rectin (Anderson et al, 1995; Thorndyke MC, Shuttleworth, 1985), cross-reacts with antisera directed against the C-terminal region of
