A non-hyaluronate proteoglycan found originally in the conditioned medium of mouse T-cell line CTLL-2, which binds specifically to the activated lymphocyte adhesion molecule CD44 (Toyama-Sorimachi et al, 1994, 1995). The approved gene symbol is SRGN. Alternative designations for serglycin are PRG1, PRG [platelet proteoglycan protein core] or PPG [platelet proteoglycan] (Alliel et al, 1988; Mattei et al, 1989; Périn et al, 1988; Stevens et al, 1988; Tantravahi et al, 1986). The complete nucleotide sequence of the human serglycin gene has been determined by Humphries et al (1992).
