Splenin

This protein of 48 amino acids is found in human and bovine spleen and lymph nodes but not other tissues. It was described originally as Thymopoietin-3 (Audhya T et al, 1981)Databanks list Thymopoietin (encoded by gene TMPO) as an alternative name for Splenin, which is cleaved from the precursor together with thymopentin. Human splenin differs from human thymopoietin, one of the thymic hormones, at four amino acid positions.
