bek
[bacterially expressed kinase] A gene isolated from the genomes of chicken, mice and humans that encodes a high-affinity transmembrane receptor for aFGF, bFGF, and K-FGF. The bek receptor is called also FGFR2 and arises by differential splicing of the FGFR2 receptor gene. This splice variant is being referred to also as FGFR2c.
bek is a high-affinity receptor for both KGF and acidic FGF, whereas FGFR2 shows high affinity for bFGF and aFGF but no detectable binding by KFGF (Miki et al, 1992).
