[viral chemokine binding protein] The secreted 35 kDa protein with no sequence similarity to known cellular receptors for chemokines is expressed by vaccinia virus (Vaccinia virus chemokine binding protein; also: Vaccinia virus C23L protein; Vaccinia virus B29R protein) and other orthopoxviruses (cowpox virus (Cowpox virus chemokine binding protein; Pickup et al, 1982), camelpox virus); Ectromelia virus chemokine binding protein (Mousepox virus chemokine binding protein). The amino acid sequence of Ectromelia virus vCKBP shares around 85 % identity with sequences from Vaccinia virus and the corresponding protein from cowpox virus (Smith and Alcami, 2000).
