[viral mitochondrial inhibitor of apoptosis] CMV UL37 protein [Cytomegalovirus UL37 protein]; HCMV UL37 [Human cytomegalovirus UL37 protein]. This protein is encoded by the UL37 gene (UL37 exon1; abbr. UL37x1) of human cytomegalovirus. vMIA resembles the anti-apoptotic members of the BCL2 protein family (Goldmacher et al, 1999, 2002). vMIA shows no obvious sequence homology to BCL2 and lacks sequences similar to the BH domains (Goldmacher et al, 1999).
