The monoclonal antibody after which the antigen was named was produced from a fusion of splenocytes from a mouse immunized with cytokine-activated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (Ruco et al, 1990; Pigott et al, 1991). The antibody recognizes the cell surface antigen ELAM-1 [endothelium leukocyte adhesion molecule 1], which, in the nomenclature of CD antigens has received the designation CD62E.
