[Activin receptor-like kinase 7] This receptor is a member of the ALK family of receptors related to TGF-beta receptors. The approved gene symbol is ACVR1C [activin A receptor type IC]. The receptor gene has been cloned by Bondestam et al (2001). Roberts et al (2003) have reported the existence of multiple ALK7 isoforms generated by alternative splicing. These isoforms include truncated and soluble forms of the receptor.
ALK7 is a serine-threonine kinase that, upon ligand binding, causes the activation of one of the SMAD signal transducers, SMAD2. Ligands for this receptor are activin B and activin AB
