Accutin is a short-chain disintegrin purified from the Formosan Agkistrodon acutus venom. It contains an RGD sequence and seven cysteinyl residues at positions highly homologous to other disintegrins (Yeh et al, 1998). Accutin dose-dependently inhibits human platelet aggregation stimulated by ADP, collagen, thrombin or the thromboxane analogue U46619, through the blockade of fibrinogen binding to platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (i.e., integrin-alpha-2b / integrin-beta-3).
