one of the subgroups of the family of chemotactic proteins known as chemokines. It is defined by the location of the first two cysteine residues in the sequence, which are separated by one amino acid (Hromas et al, 1997) and is usually called CXC-Chemokines. This group is known also as 4q chemokine family, due to a gene cluster on human chromosome 4q12-q21. For another systematic nomenclature of chemokines see also: SCY family of cytokines.
