BCLx
This protein is a member of the BCL2 family of proteins. It is being referred to also as BCL2-like-1 (abbr. BCL2L1).
The protein contains the BCL2 homology domains BH1, BH2, BH3, and BH4. The protein is located predominantly in mitochondrial membranes.
Two major splice variants have been described. Human BCLxL (L = large) is a protein of 233 amino acids. BCLxS (S = short) is a protein of 170 amino acids and lacks 63 amino acids that comprise the region of greatest amino acid identity between BCLxL and BCL2, i.e., it does not contain the BH1 and BH2
