an acronym for 'bursal epithelium and neurons'. The cDNA sequence is identical to that of DM-GRASP and SC-1. In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD166.

BEN is a 95 - 100 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed widely during chicken embryonic development. BEN expression extends to a variety of tissues originating from the three embryonic germ layers.
