BEN
an acronym for 'bursal epithelium and neurons'. The cDNA sequence is identical to that of DM-GRASP and SC-1. In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD166.
BEN is a 95 - 100 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed widely during chicken embryonic development. BEN expression extends to a variety of tissues originating from the three embryonic germ layers.
In the thymus, BEN is expressed by immature thymocytes. In the spleen, BEN expression is seen in splenocytes during embryonic development. The numbers of cells
