[breast cancer cell 2] This intronless human gene on chromosome 11q24.1 has been identified by Broustas et al (2004). BRCC2 is identical with BLID [BH3-like motif-containing cell death inducer].
The protein (108 amino acids) contains a BH3 domain. The protein is localized predominantly in the cytosol and to a lesser extent in mitochondria. Ectopic expression of BRCC2 in eukaryotic cells causes cell death by apoptosis and coincides with expression of caspase-3 and caspase-9.
