Beclin

The gene encoding Beclin (called also Beclin-1; gene symbol BECN1) was isolated from an adult mouse brain library. It is being referred to also as ATG6 [autophagy-related-6] or coiled coil myosin-like BCL2-interacting protein). Yeast orthologs of Beclin have been described as vpt30 [vacuolar protein targeting protein 30] and APG6 [autophagy gene 6]. See: vps30 [vacuolar protein sorting protein 30].
