[coiled-coil domain containing 80] (see also: coiled-coil domains). This is the gene symbol for a gene described variously as DRO1 [downregulated by oncogenes 1], SSG1 [steroid-sensitive gene-1], URB [upregulated in Brs3-deficient mice], and Equarin.
CCDC80 has been shown to be an adipokine secreted by adipocytes in white adipose tissues (Tremblay et al, 2009). Silencing of CCDC80 in 3T3-L1 cells inhibits adipocyte differentiation. This phenotype is reversed partially by treatment with exogenous CCDC80 in the form of conditioned medium from differentiated 3T3-L1 cells
