CES-1
[Cell Death Specification-1] The Caenorhabditis elegans gene CES-1 encodes a transcription factor that has been identified independently as TEF [thyrotroph embryonic factor] in rat and zebrafish. CES-1 encodes a Snail family zinc finger protein, known to play critical roles in neurogenesis in invertebrates (Roark et al, 1995). CES-1 is most similar in sequence to the Drosophila melanogaster neuronal differentiation protein scrt [Scratch; gene: CG1130] (Metzstein and Horvitz, 1999; Roark et al, 1995; Nakakura et al, 2001).
