Calpromotin has been identified by Moore et al (1991) as a cytoplasmic protein found in erythrocytes that participates in calcium-dependent potassium transport. The analysis of rat organ homogenates demonstrates that the protein is located in most tissues with particular enrichment in adrenal glands, brain, lung, and blood. Kristensen et al (1999) have shown that calpromotin is identical to a radical scavenger protein, TSA [thiol-specific antioxidant protein], which has been shown to be Peroxiredoxin-2 and constitutes one subunit (NKEF-B) of the dimeric protein NKEF [Natural killer enhancing factor].
