[differentially expressed in neoplastic versus normal cells] DENN was identified initially as a gene that is differentially expressed in neoplastic vs. normal cells (Chow and Lee, 1996). Alternatively spliced transcripts have been described that are expressed in some tissues and cell lines (Chow et al, 1998). The human DENN gene maps to chromosome region 11p11.21-p11.22 (Chow et al, 1998). The gene encodes a serine- and leucine-rich protein of 1587 amino acids. DENN displays significant homology to Rab3 GEP, a rat GDP/GTP exchange protein (Brown and Howe, 1998). The protein is virtually identical with MADD, a human MAP kinase-activating death domain protein that interacts with the type 1 TNF receptor
