[Drosophila melanogaster EGF receptor] Drosophila melanogaster DER, encoded by gene CG10079, and the human EGF receptor gene are considered homologous (Shilo and Raz, 1991). DER is identical with two genes, designated torpedo and faint little ball, respectively (Price et al, 1989; Schejter and Shilo, 1989; Raz and Shilo, 1992; Raz et al, 1991). Both genes are involved in the dorso-ventricular development of the embryo.
DER has been shown to exert pleiotropic activities. Many DER mutations are embryonic lethal alleles. DER affects pattern formation, cell division, and cell death in eye imaginal discs. It has been shown also to determine neuroblast identity. See also:
