Neuroblasts

[neuroblast]

a term pertaining to the undifferentiated precursor cells of neurons. These cells are multipotent neural stem cells and are also being referred to as immature neurons, i.e., cells committed to become neurons (Lin and Schagat, 1997; Morest and Silver, 2003).

In the context of neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus, neuroblasts may be referred to as Type 3 Neural stem/progenitor cells or Type 3 Neural stem cells (often simply type 3 cells).
