[Dual identity proteins and Cryptides MiniCOPE Dictionary, Dual identity proteins and Cryptides]
This entry is one of several MiniCOPE Dictionaries within COPE. I called it thus for want of a better name, and within COPE it serves its purpose. Fragments of proteins that may have activities similar or entirely different from those of the parent protein have been termed cryptic peptides or cryptides or crypteins.
Some of the factors listed here are known mainly for their intracellular functions but appear to have activities outside of the cell. I wonder whether they might not constitute danger signals that can alter activities of immune cells
