[Extracellular matrix receptor-2; class 2 ECMR] ECMR-2 is an extracellular matrix receptor shown to be involved in cell adhesion by virtue of its ability to bind collagen. Takada et al (1988) have shown that this receptor is identical with the alpha chain of the activation antigen VLA-2. The beta-chain of ECMR-2 is VLA-beta (CD29).
Kunicki et al (1988) have shown independently that platelet protein GPIa is the alpha chain of ECMR-2.
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD49b.
