(-1-)
FAS antigen, also in some publication First Apoptosis Signal Receptor as explanation for the acronym FAS. This is a cysteine-rich transmembrane protein of 335 amino acids with significant similarity to the members of the TNF /NGF receptor superfamily. Oehm et al (1992) have shown that this antigen is identical with the cell surface antigen APO-1 (see), cross-linking of which causes cell death by apoptosis.
