[Fibroblast stimulating factor-1] This is an acidic factor of approximately 60 kDa isolated from chronic granulomas developing after infections with Schistosoma mansoni or Schistosoma japonicum. The factor is secreted by CD4(+) lymphocytes residing in these granulomas (Greenwel et al, 1993; Prakash et al, 1991; Prakash and Wyler, 1992.
The factor is highly mitogenic for fibroblasts and stimulates liver fat-storing cells in vitro. FsF-1 is not identical with aFGF and its activity is not neutralized by antibodies specific for aFGF.
