[granule cell]
also: granule neurons; this collective term refers to populations of neurons found predominantly in the cerebellum, where they are the most numerous cell type. They are generated largely postnatally in humans and several small rodents and form a dense and distinct layer in the deepest layer of the tri-laminar cerebellar cortex (for development see: Iulianella et al, 2019; Wang and Liu, 2019). Granule cells are synaptically connected with mossy fibers and Golgi cells mainly inside specialized structures called glomeruli. Each dendrite of a given granule cell receives an excitatory input from a distinct mossy fiber and an inhibitory synapse from a Golgi neuron. Golgi neurons put
