[HEAT domain, HEAT domains]
The acronym HEAT is derived from the four proteins in which this protein domain was first observed (Huntingtin, Elongation factor-3, Protein phosphatase 2A, TOR1). The HEAT domain is a structural motif composed of two anti-parallel interacting helices (Andrade et al, 2001; Groves and Barford, 1999). It serves as a protein-protein interaction motif and is found in many copies in a variety of proteins.
For information on other protein domains and sequence motifs see also the Protein domains/sequence motifs Dictionary section of this encyclopedia.
