Kinocidins
[kinocidin]
a name given to a class of proteins with features of chemokines and direct or indirect microbicidal activities (for a broader collective term see also: antimicrobial chemokines). These and other antimicrobial peptides from evolutionarily diverse organisms contain disulfide bridges and a conserved three-dimensional motif, termed gamma-core signature, that allows identification of previously unrecognized antimicrobial activity in peptides of known identity (Yount and Yeaman, 2004).
Kinocidins include tPMP [thrombin-induced platelet microbicidal proteins] and PMP-1, some defensins, and several peptides
