[macrophage inflammatory protein-2] (don't confuse with MIP2 and MIP 2); see: MIP (macrophage inflammatory protein). In the systematic nomenclature of chemokines the designation for MIP-2 is CXCL1 (approved gene symbol), and the factor is known also as SCYB1. For a virus-encoded counterpart see also: viral MIP-2.
