[Mu-2 related death-inducing gene; MU-2/AP1M2 domain containing death-inducing gene; MHD domain-containing death-inducing protein] abbr. also: Mu5, MuD. The gene encoding this protein has been identified by Kawasaki and Taira (2002) in a screen aimed at the identification of pro-death genes in apoptosis mediated by FAS. MUDENG (490 amino acids) appears to be evolutionary conserved from mammals to amphibians. The protein appears to be part of an adaptor protein complex that sorts cargo into vesicles for transport from one membrane compartment of the cell to another (Hirst et al, 2011).
