[neural cell adhesion molecule-2] The cDNA encoding this adhesion molecule has been cloned by Paoloni-Giacobino et al (1997). The protein shows homology to the cell adhesion protein NCAM1. NCAM2 exists in a transmembrane and a lipid-anchored isoform and is expressed preferentially in the brain. NCAM2 has been described independently as OCAM [olfactory cell adhesion molecule], thought to play important roles in selective fasciculation and zone-to-zone projection of the primary olfactory axons (Yoshihara et al, 1997).
