[PB1 domains]
[Phox and Bem1 domain] This evolutionarily conserved protein domain is a protein-protein interaction domain of approximately 80 amino acids. Some PB1 domains can heterodimerize with a paired PB1 domain, but not all PB1 domains will associate with one another.
The PB1 domain is found in a number of cytoplasmic signaling proteins (Teresawa et al, 2002). Two types of the domain have been described (Yoshinaga et al, 2003). Type 1 PB1 domains contains an internal conserved sequence of 28 amino acids with highly conserved acidic and hydrophobic residues (Nakamura et al, 1998). This subsequence is called PC motif (Nakamura et al, 1998), OPR motif (octicosapeptide repeat) (Ponting, 1996), or AID motif (atypical PKC interaction
