[p75-like apoptosis-inducing death domain protein] This rat single transmembrane protein is homologous to the common neurotrophin receptor p75NTR in its death domain and the transmembrane region but dissimilar outside these regions (Frankowski et al, 2002). The mouse protein has been identified as NRADD.
PLAIDD mRNA is expressed highly in the embryo, but downregulated in adult tissues. PLAIDD-L and PLAIDD-S are long and short isoforms, respectively, arising by alternative splicing within the extracellular region of PLAIDD. Overexpression of each isoform causes cell death by apoptosis in superior cervical ganglion neurons
