[plasmatocyte spreading peptide-1] This peptide [ENFNGGCLAGYMRTADGRCKPTF] was identified in the moth Pseudopulsia includens. It consists of 23 amino acid residues and contains a single disulfide bond.
The protein causes nonadhesive plasmatocytes (see also: hemocytes), which are an essential component of the invertebrate immune system, to become strongly adhesive cells that can attach to each other and to foreign targets. The factor also induces plasmatocytes from Pseudopulsia includens to spread on the surface of culture dishes. It represses spreading of granulocytes. (see also: Motogenic cytokines).
