Period2
[Period circadian protein 2] abbr. Per2. This protein is a homolog of the Drosophila clock gene period (per; gene: CG2647), which encodes a component of the circadian clock. The cDNA for the human gene has been cloned by Shearman et al (1997), which is expressed widely in all tissues examined.
The murine Period2 gene is an indispensable component of the circadian clock and modulates circadian oscillations and also regulates organic function.
