[Regeneration and tolerance factor] RTF was identified originally as a membrane protein in the placenta of mice. Lattuada et al (2004) have reported that RTF is expressed constitutively in endometrial cells and decidual cells and that its expression is upregulation during the secretory phase of the cycle. The human gene (chromosome 12) has been cloned from thymus (Lee et al, 2001). RTF is a regulatory subunit of the vacuolar ATPase proton pump (see: ATP6V0A2) and has been identified independently as TJ6 (Babichev et al, 2005).
RTF is expressed in peripheral cytotrophoblasts of early placentas (7-9 weeks). It is expressed also on peripheral B-lymphocytes
