[SAPLIP]
[saposin-like proteins] This term refers to a diverse family of proteins not found in prokaryotes, that share common structural features with saposins, allowing for association with lipids. The conserved structure in these proteins comprises a conserved pattern of cysteine residues, a saposin fold or SAPLIP domain (known in permutated form as Swaposin domain (see: saposins)). This structural feature can occur as an autonomous domain or appears as one domain in multidomain proteins. Many of these proteins have other functions, and their bioactivities are often defined by interaction partners other than lipids.
