[stimulator of interferon genes] approved gene symbol: TMEM173 [transmembrane protein 173]. The protein has been identified independently as MPYS, which has been shown to play a role in cell death, and as ERIS [endoplasmic reticulum interferon stimulator].
STING protein has been identified by Ishikawa and Barber (2008).
