[Ixodes 15-kDa salivary gland protein] This immunomodulatory protein from the tick Ixodes scapularis has been identified by Anguita et al (2002) as a secreted 15 kDa salivary protein. The genes from Ixodes pacificus Cooley & Kohls and Ixodes persulcatus Schulze have been cloned by Hojgaard et al (2009). The cDNA for Salp15 from Ixodes ricinus ticks has been identified by Hovius et al (2007).
Hovius et al (2007) have identified three Salp15 homologs in Ixodes ricinus, Salp15 Iric-1 (often just Iric-1), Salp15 Iric-2, and Salp15 Iric-3, of which Salp15 Iric-1 is most similar to Ixodes scapularis Salp15. Iric-1
