[tumor-derived suppressor factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 69-77 kDa is found in the serum-free medium of the human melanoma cell line G361. TDSF strongly suppresses the generation of tumoricidal lymphokine-activated killer cells in response to IL2 (see: LAK cells) (Lim et al, 1991). TDSF is not identical with TGF-beta and may be a novel immunoregulatory cytokine (Somers et al, 1991).
A tumor-derived suppressor factor has been found also in patients with acute myeloid leukemia. At present it is not known whether the two activities described as TDSF are identical.
