TROY
This protein was identified in a signal sequence trap screening of the murine brain. The human counterpart shows a 75 % homology with mouse TROY at the amino acid level. The terms TROY-alpha and TROY-beta refer to isoforms obtained by alternative splicing (see also: Eby et al, 2000).
TROY is a type 1 membrane protein (C-terminus inside) of 416 amino acids that is one of the members of the TNF receptor superfamily of proteins. The extracellular domain of TROY shows extensive homology with Edar, a receptor that specifies hair follicle fate. The intracellular domain contains a TRAF2 binding domain.
